Rod Macqueen

Rod’s practical philosophy of teamwork and inspiration has taken him to the very top. As a businessman he has successfully built up a multi-million dollar merchandising business. As a former coach of Australia’s national Rugby Union Side, the Wallabies, he has led his team to World Cup and Bledisloe Cup Victories as well as winning the Tri-Nations championships – and he’s done it using his own unusual techniques. Those who work with him or are coached by him cannot speak highly enough of his abilities to lead, motivate and direct people to success.

Rod Macqueen is not only Australia’s most successful national coach, but is recognised worldwide as one of the greatest rugby coaches of the modern era. When the Wallabies succeeded in winning the World Cup in November 1999 his achievements were greater than any coach before him, but there was more to come. In the following year Australia created rugby history by becoming the only nation to have in its possession at the one time, every international trophy on offer. He led his team to World Cup and Bledisloe Cup victories as well as winning the Tri-Nations championship – and he did it using his own unusual techniques.

Rod Macqueen is far more than a one-dimensional rugby man. He moves effortlessly and comfortably through several worlds, making a notable contribution in each one. Apart from transforming an aimless Wallaby side into the best rugby team in the world, he is renowned for his leadership in the Surf Life Saving movement and for his creative vision in business. Indeed, there is much more to the man who played 173 First Grade matches for Sydney Club, Warringah, who then went on to coach their top grade into two grand finals, and later successfully coached the NSW ‘Waratahs’ through the 1991 season undefeated.

Rod Macqueen’s successful point-of-sale advertising business, Advantage Line, has a multi-million dollar annual turnover. It runs smoothly because of a familiar mix of quality personnel, hard work, discipline and camaraderie. A combination that complements perfectly the creative design skills of Macqueen who has expanded business rapidly in an extremely competitive field. All employees pride themselves on being team players who give a hundred percent and are willing and able to speak their mind knowing all input is appreciated.

There is a common thread linking his many achievements: how a specific goal can be reached with the resources at hand, the importance of linking organisational skills with lateral thinking, discipline and teamwork, and the importance of family values, pride in achievement and keeping a good sense of humour. Since relinquishing his position as Wallaby coach, Rod Macqueen has already taken on new challenges, accepting directorships on several major companies and becoming a sought after keynote speaker at business and sporting functions.

Those who work with him or are coached by him cannot speak highly enough of Macqueen’s abilities to lead, motivate and direct people to success.
