Ray McVinnie

Ray McVinnie is an acclaimed chef and food writer.

Most recently seen as one of the judges on MasterChef NZ, Ray is also a lecturer at AUT, an acclaimed chef, a columnist and food advisor to Cuisine magazine. When it comes to food, Ray knows his onions.

Now a familiar face on television, Ray McVinnie has been a food writer and advisor to Cuisine since 1992.

Ray has always had a passion for food. Even while he studied for his Masters degree majoring in history he cooked part time. He then co-owned and cheffed at a restaurant specialising in French food. After working in several other well-known Auckland restaurants Ray was appointed Executive Chef at Metropole where he stayed for six years.

Apart from his food and travel writing Ray also works as a food consultant, stylist and occasional guest chef for various restaurants and cookschools.
