The Mermaids

The Mermaids have three fantastic female vocalists doing classic covers - the overall effect is classy, fun, feel good and crowd pleasing – suitable for the broadest audience. Well recommended.

'The Mermaids' Dance Band are one of New Zealand's most established and esteemed musical lineups, based in Auckland and delivering the perfect party repertoire since 2000, performing mostly high energy music. Featuring three glamorous female vocalists, including well known personality Joe Cotton, Pauline Berry and newest member Tammy "the voice" D'Ath. The band performs a "super-fun" classic and current repertoire, from 1950's rock n roll to 2012 techno, 1970s disco to R & B. Specializing in music for the dance floor, featuring each singer in turn, all is wrapped up in great harmony and gorgeous costumes. The vocalists are accompanied by keyboardist Stuart Pearce, plus guitar. They also frequent adapt to themes and styles as requested. The Mermaids have played at Gala Dinners, Christmas Functions, Fundraiser Balls, Festivals around New Zealand, from Russell to Invercargill, Palmerston North to Nelson to New Plymouth. They have performed at the formal balls at The Chateau, Mt Ruapehu, for the last ten years and recently a ball in Rarotonga. They have performed for most high profile companies in NZ, two Prime Ministers, fashion designers and at an All Black wedding. A musical act that excells in dance music plus fun & spontaneous onstage personalities. Total professionalism, this band has one of the best word-of-mouth reputations in New Zealand.

“The Mermaids” are a dance band that features three female vocalists performing some of the most entertaining and classic tunes of all time. This group is a unique meeting of talents, influences and styles, Each vocalist is a lead singer in their own right and specialises in different genres as well as perfuming as part of the ensemble. The vocal line up is a complemented by the sublime skills of one of New Zealand’s most respected guitarists – Martin Winch, who is also Musical Director and programs all backing tracks.

Much of the musical content pays tribute to some of the great female vocalists of the past and present, including Aretha Franklin, Shania Twain, Toni Childs, Diana Ross, Annie Lennox, and Celine Dion with classy vocal interpretations of the hits of these feminine icons. “The Mermaids" also sometimes feature special guest male vocalist Russell Harrison who specialises in awesome vocal interpretation of the hits of the like of Tom Jones, Lionel Ritchie and Neil Diamond plus more modern classics.

The music varies in temp from ballads to high-energy dance music, across many genres unrestrictedly. The overall effect is classy, fun, feel good and crowd pleasing – suitable for the broadest audience.

The Mermaids also perform an entire ABBA tribute show.
