In 1984 Patricia Cameron-Hill and Shayne Yates changed their career directions as a nurse and doctor to establish their own business in Melbourne. Since then they have inspired, informed and entertained thousands of people worldwide, with their unique presentations. Their ideas have helped people in government; professions and private industry make better use of their time. They combine fun and humour with the practical messages about work, relationships, stress and health. They realised the connection between the way managers performed and how well they managed. In some companies, staff were happy and worked well, especially under stress. In other companies, staff were disorganised and tense. They discovered staff could create their own happy work environments and ways to handle pressure and reduce stress. At the other end was the way clients were treated, always on outcome of how staff feel about their jobs and how well they do them.

Too many people see workplace stress an inevitable. They expect to be stressed at work and often feel helpless when it comes to doing anything about it. Employers often accept stress as an unavoidable consequence of necessary changes to the workplace. Yet they fail to recognise that stress can be a barometer of how well an organisation is functioning overall. There is much that can be done to reduce stress and save money through increased morale, reduced absenteeism and lower staff turnover.

We live in a negative world. As a society we are quick to celebrate pain especially through the media. Once the greatest insult you could give someone was to call them a “whinger”. Today whinging is almost a national past time. It is accepted as normal to complain about work as something to be endured. Most people are quick to see the negatives, but rarely focus on the positives of having a job and a chance to serve others. It has been their experience that most people do not expect to be happy at work. In fact, if you are outwardly happy, people think there is something wrong with you. It has also been their experience that people can learn to be more aware of the joy in their lives, both at work and home.

Patricia and Shayne have a reputation for making their presentations interesting and fun to learn. They don’t believe that learning has to be a painful experience - in fact, research shows that you learn more if you’re relaxed and entertained.
